Setting off from New Delhi to the plains of fertile Punjab, an introduction to the foothills of the mighty Himalayas that remain in sight for long hours. We stop at the famous resort of Manali and while acclimatizing we make a cycling day tour to heritage sites in around Manali. Beginning with a cycle along the Beas River to an uphill climb to Rohtang pass at 3978m then along the Chandra and Bhaga river valley to Baralacha la pass. The challenging cycling starts soon after Darcha last village in the valley as the altitude goes above 4000m. After Baralacha la pass the plains of Rupshu Karnak and never-ending gata loops to Kangla Jal long cycling through the impressive gorge to more plains to Tsokar Lake. The final climb begins to Taglang la pass begins at Debring. You meet with Changpa nomads who still roam in the vast land of Changthang. Finally spectacular descent to the Indus River valley to Leh. Where the trip ends. We take a day cycling trip to Khardung la pass, our last destination and the highest motorable pass in the world. Finally, make an important excursion around the Indus Valley. Fly to Delhi and onward journey back to home.

Manali – Leh Cycling tour – Outline itinerary

Day 1:  Arrive in Delhi / Chandigarh. Drive to Manali.
Day 2:  At Manali (2050m): acclimatize
Day 3:  Manali (2050m) – Palchan (2400 m) – Kothi (2520m) – Marhi (3250m), 35 km/ +1200m climb.
Day 4:  Marhi (3250m) – Rohtang pass (3977 m) – Koksar (3230 m) – Sissu (3100m) – Tandi (2980m),  73 km/+727m climb, -997m descend.
Day 5:  Tandi (2980m) – Keylong (3100m) – Jispa (3200m) – Darcha (3350m) – Patseo (3760m), 51 km/ +780m climb.
Day 6:  Patseo (3760m) – Zingzing bar (4300m) – Baralacha La (4920m)- Kelang Sarai (4500m), 44 km/+1160 m climb, -420m descend.
Day 7:  Kelang Sarai (4500m) – Sarchu (4300m) – Brandy Nala (4150m) – Gata loops (4650m) – Nakee La (4925m) – Whisky nallah (4760m). 67 km/ +775 m climb,
Day 8:  Whisky Nala (4760m) – Lachulang la (5070m) – Pang (4500m) – More plains (4630m) – Debring plains (4630m). 80 km/ +310m climb
Day 9:  Debring (4630m) -Tsokar Lake (4600m) – Visit Thukje gompa – Debring (4630m), 53 km
Day 10: Debring (4630 m) – Sangtha (4400m), 43 km
Day 11: Debring (4630 m) – Taglang la (5328m) – Rumtse (4300m) – Lato (3970m), 52 km/ +700 m climb.
Day 12: Lato (3970m) – Leh (3600m), 74 km
Day 13: At Leh (3600m)
Day 14: Leh (3600m) – Khardung La (5360m) – Leh cycle. 39 + 39 = 78 km/ + 1760m climb.
Day 15: Flight Leh – Delhi and onward flight back to home town.
